Book Blitz: Docked & Anchored by Rachael Wade (Excerpt + Giveaway)

Book & Author Details:

Docked & Anchored
Rachael Wade
Genres:
 Contemporary, New Adult

Synopsis for Docked:
A new, sensual Adult Contemporary Romance from author of the Amazon bestselling PRESERVATION SERIES, THE REPLACEMENT, and LOVE AND RELATIVITY. Coming to e-readers everywhere May 26, 2014.

It’s not water that paralyzes Anya Banks—it’s the ocean. Tumultuous and powerful, sleek and unpredictable, it’s just like Tanner Christensen, owner of Trident Voyager, the cruise ship she’s been talked into boarding by her vivacious, foodie fanatic best friend and co-worker, Lana. Tanner exudes confidence, and his raw masculinity is hard to resist. But Anya came aboard to work, face her demons, and then get the hell back to dry land.

Until Tanner convinces her to take the plunge.

She quickly dives into a fun, carefree arrangement with him and embraces her goal to be brave, no matter how loudly her shaky knees tell her to abandon ship. For twelve days, Tanner’s all hers. For twelve days, she’s his goddess. Once the cruise is over and the ship docks, she won’t be the same. But being brave always costs something, and this time, it might cost her heart.

Synopsis for Anchored (releases in September!):

Tanner and Anya’s story continues…

Choosing to put aside her reservations about spending more time with Tanner Christensen, Anya said to hell with her instinct and agreed to another cruise. She agreed to take the risk. But now she’s stuck.

Stuck on Trident Voyager.

Stuck with Tanner Christensen, and the woman hell bent on making her pay.

What was supposed to be a fun, careless fling turned out to be something else entirely. Something she wasn’t prepared for and something she certainly can’t take back. The damage is done, and this time, Lana and Brie aren’t by her side to help her weather the storm. There are no escape routes, only ship decks, miles of white sand, and one very self-assured, dominant cruise ship owner determined to get her attention and set things straight.

Lana might still be her partner in crime, but it’s Anya who must fight for—and protect—her heart when all is said and done.

Excerpt from Docked:

My hair blows wildly as Tanner flies down the road, The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather” blaring loudly through the speakers. The road curves and we wind around, little glimpses of the water flashing in between the thickets of palm trees that line the shoulders. We cruise farther and farther from any signs of tourist activity, leaving the cabanas and guest beach in the dust. A few minutes pass and we speed around another corner, peeling onto a long, dirt driveway that leads deep into the tropical brush.

A small turquoise house comes into view, its shutters weathered, the paint peeled along the slats.
“What are we doing here?” I finally ask as Tanner brings the car to a stop.

He reaches over and turns the radio off, then flicks the ignition. The windows are still open, and the purr of the smooth machine we’re sitting in dies. “You’re here to learn some more Tanner Christensen 101,” he says matter-of-factly, yanking me over the console and onto his lap. A surprised yelp sends the wind rushing from my lungs. When I collide with him, he finally tears his shades away and tosses them on the passenger seat.

I grip his shoulders, my eyes wide.

“Let me clarify something for you, Miss Banks,” he demands, gathering my disheveled, windswept hair in his hands and holding it at the nape of my neck. “I was under the assumption that when we made our agreement, the exclusivity we discussed went both ways.”

I blink. “Well, you assumed right. I wasn’t doing anything with—”

“I don’t want to hear his name,” he snaps, clutching the back of my head, “I don’t want to know anything about him. I already got an eyeful of his hands on you, and it told me everything I need to know. He’s a boy, not a man, and he won’t be able to take care of you.” His mouth hits my throat, hot and wet. He murmurs against my skin, voice raw and rough, an unhinged edge to his tone. “Right now, you’re going to ride me hard. One, because it’s been a hell of a morning and I need it, and two because you need it and you don’t know it yet.” His fingers make quick work of my bikini top, ripping at the flimsy strings. He flings it aside and then tears my bottoms off, swinging my legs around like a pro. He kisses me, his mouth harsh, tongue demanding. I taste the sea salt from my skin on his lips.

His hands are firm and controlled, roaming everywhere. Sand grinds at my skin with each touch. He’s sucking the breath from me and I’m so shocked, I can’t even process the deprivation. I can only sink into him, quench his thirst and satisfy his hunger. I push at his suit jacket, frantically peeling it down his shoulders. He groans in approval and cups my breasts, squeezing and trailing his thumbs along the undersides.

“Tanner,” I whimper, “I love the way you touch me.”

“Bite,” he demands huskily, placing the pad of his thumb on my bottom lip. I obey and press my teeth down, moaning as he pushes his hips up to deliver the most delicious pressure. His thumb leaves my mouth and trails across my jaw bone, landing just below my ear. He rubs gently, the moist pad working delicate strokes into the skin. “You like this spot, baby?”

I lean into his touch, and my eyes drift shut in pure pleasure. “Yes.”

He keeps rubbing the space just below my ear while he leans up to nip my lips, working me into a blissful haze. The last few minutes are a blur. In a matter of seconds of being on this man’s lap, I’ve almost forgotten my morning with Lana and Brie, and my walk on the beach with Jonah. All my body registers is Tanner’s raging need and my desire to give him what he’s desperate for.

Excerpt:

“You look lovely, Grace.” I smile back, but before I can say anything, he guides me over to the hallway where the restrooms are located. “Come with me, girl,” he says in his master voice, and I gulp down my apprehension. He holds the door open to the men’s room. I pass through and then he closes it behind us and locks it. “Take off your panties, Grace.” Even though he’s calling me Grace, I know I have no chance of talking my way out of this. He gave in back at the bungalow and let me win. Now it’s his turn. I lift up my flirty skirt that could blow up and expose my private parts with the slightest wind, and slip my panties down my legs, step out of them, bend over and pick them up. And then hand them over to his outstretched palm. He brings them to his face and inhales. My eyebrows go up and he smiles. “Fuck, that’s intoxicating. Now listen, girl. I let you have your way but now it’s time to perform. You owe me a public orgasm, Grace. And I want it here in the restaurant.” He produces a small bullet vibrator from one suit pocket and a remote control from the other. “And I’ve got everything you need to be successful this time.” “No.” It comes out so fast, we are both equally stunned. I take advantage of his pause, because this is the only chance I’ll get. “I’m not sure what you have in mind, but I’m not masturbating in a restaurant. I won’t do it.” He scowls at me. “You will do it. You already promised me.” “So? I didn’t know that what you wanted would get me arrested for being a public whore!” “Would you just trust me, please? You haven’t even heard what I want yet.” “Oh, for fuck’s sake. Why can’t we just have lunch?” “I’m adding that fuck to your list. And to answer your question, because I gave you an order and you didn’t want to follow through. This was the agreement. You do as I say and you get rewards. You disobey and you get punishments.” “But why can’t you just say, Grace, you look lovely. Let’s eat some fucking food?” I smile at his scowl and have to cover my mouth with my hand to stop from laughing. He’s so easy to mess with. “I don’t appreciate that, Grace. Now bend over so I can get you nice and wet first.”

Book Review: Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Title: Ugly Love
Author: Colleen Hoover
Genre: NA, Contemporary, Romance
Publication: August 5th 2014, by Atria Books

Summary (Goodreads):

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she knows it isn’t love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.Never ask about the past.Don’t expect a future.
They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.Promises get broken.Rules get shattered.Love gets ugly.

My Thoughts:

I've read a lot of Colleen Hoover books, if not all of them and what I've come to associate with them is crying, heartbreak and some of the awesomest book boyfriends out there. Ugly Love was no exception.

This book is about Tate Collins, a girl studying to become a nurse, who upon moving in to live with her brother, meets pilot Miles Archer, a guy as closed to the world as he is hot and a guy who is just as attracted to her as she is to him. So they make an arrangement which includes everything physical and nothing emotional. These are Miles rules and Tate accepts, only to regret them later when she falls for him.

In Ugly Love, the past and present where woven together. The past told from Miles POV and the present from Tate's. I didn't get that at the begging, and I was pretty confused by it. I didn't think it was needed to put Miles past in the book, until I came to about half of the book and I found why his past was told. After that, I pretty much wanted to cover my eyes and pray that what I thought would happen, wouldn't happen.

Miles is another CoHo guy I had mixed feeling for when I started Ugly Love. I was so frustrated with him a lot of the time. One moment he was this sweet guy who did things that just made me go 'aww, can I have him?' and he cared about Tate which was obvious from pretty much the first three chapters, and then he'd turn into such a jerk I wanted to throw something at his head. He'd get upset if Tate showed she cared about him for a second or if she as said 'I missed you' when he was away. And I wanted to throttle Tate for letting him do that to her and going back to him when she was so hurt by his actions. But at the same time, I couldn't fault her, not when I could see what she liked so much about Miles. It was pretty clear that he'd gone through something huge and that's why he was the way he was.

Even though I was frustrated with both characters, I couldn't help but get sucked into their story from the first page. I think we've already established that Colleen Hoovers writing style is pure genius. I don't know how she does it, but she writes in a way that just flows, is so simple yet so not simple at the same time. It's beautiful and heartfelt and gives me all the feels. I could read anything she writes anytime and any place, and while Ugly Love had everything a CoHo book does, which is tears, laughter and swoony moments, this book had something I haven't read in her other books, which is sex. It was hot yet so sweet at the same time that I felt like I was going to bust from all the emotions. I loved the chemistry between Miles and Tate and that is one of the things that made me understand why Tate kept going back to him, and when his past was finally told, I cried so hard. Like ugly crying where I couldn't read a word because my eyes were blurry with tears and I couldn't take a breath. I'm not exaggerating. I do cry easily, but I've never cried this hard in my life, but it made me understand why Miles was the way he was as he struggled with leaving the past behind and starting to live again.

Ugly Love is a tale about moving on, about not letting the past define us and the healing power of love. It's one of my top reads this year and definitely a favorite.

Excerpt:

Sometimes the things that go bump in the night are real.  Happy birthday to me.
I close my eyes and burrow into my pillow as I try to sleep, as I try to escape this life.
It’s a life I never thought I’d have, a life I most certainly don’t want.
I’m still feeling sorry for myself as the blackness of sleep finally overtakes me.
I don’t know what time it is when I shoot straight upward like a rocket.  Something had yanked me from the oblivion of sleep, something loud and shrill scraping my window.
My room is completely dark and I glanceat my clock in confusion.
3:00 a.m.
As my heart pounds hard against my ribcage, I quickly scan every corner of the room.
In the last few hours, dark shadows had migrated onto my pink walls, but they’re familiar, nothing out of the ordinary, although in the night, they seem twisted and scary.
I remain motionless as I allow the sleep-induced fog to clear from my brain.
As I sit, I feel common sense and logic slowly returning.
Of course nothing had touched my window because my bedroom is on the second floor. Nothing can reach it.  And there are no trees near enough to brush against it.  It was just a dream.
It was only a dream.
I chant it silently to myself like a mantra as I consciously slow my breathing down, hoping that my racing pulse will soon follow. It was only a dream.
But just as I’m calming down, I hear it again.
A high-pitched shrill shriek, reminiscent of fingernails on a chalkboard, scraping down my window. I gasp and pull my feet up to my chest, which is when I notice the temperature.
I notice because I can see my breath.
Timidly, I blow a puff out again, watching the way my breath turns white in the air.
Holy crap.  Oh my God.
What the hell?
The sound stops and stillness surrounds me once again, the silence so loud that it echoes in my ear.Nothing moves around me, the shadows are perfectly still as they twist across my wall.  They look like mangled fingers and arms and legs, but they don’t move.
My legs are weak and shaking, but I know I have to move.   I have to move off my bed because it feels like something is under it.  Something terrifying.
With a leap, I bound across the room, my feet hitting the floor several feet away from the edge of my bed.
The floor is ice cold, as though it had been covered in a blanket of snow.
I’m trembling as I race to the far wall and check the thermostat.  Because that’s the only explanation.  I must’ve bumped it earlier, I must’ve turned the AC way down.
But the luminous numbers stare at me in contradiction.
74 degrees.
It must be broken.  It has to be broken.
My breath is coming in pants now, terrified, anxious pants.
My fear isn’t logical.  I know there’s nothing here.  I’m the only one in this room.
Or am I?
The air seems to push at me from all around, something dark, something heavy, something real.  Something unseen.
My fingers shake, my legs tremble, and then all of a sudden, they can no longer support my weight.  I go down like a pile of bricks, collapsing onto the floor.  I lie still because I can’t move, because something seems to sit on my chest, holding me down.
The shadows start to move, to slither across the walls, to reach and pull and dance. I struggle to focus, to see what it is.
But all I can see are the numbers on the thermostat suddenly moving, rapidly counting down from 74 to 20.
Twenty degrees?
The air is frigid as I suck it in, as I try to pull the ice crystals into my mouth so I can breathe. All of a sudden, there’s a blackness in front of me.  It hovers over me, a shapeless mass, sucking in the cells of the air, the atoms and the molecules.  It’s darker than the blackness of my room, blacker than the blackest black.
Something is here.
With me.
“Dad?” I whisper in a white puff.  Because what else could it be?
I reach out a finger to touch it, and then I can’t see anything else, because the darkness of it surrounds me, bleeding into everything else, even my vision.   The shriek is back, screaming into my ears, bleeding into my brain.
Then there’s nothing.

Lisa Amowitz was born in Queens and raised in the wilds of Long Island, New York where she climbed trees, thought small creatures lived under rocks and studied ant hills. And drew. A lot.
Lisa has been a professor of graphic design at  Bronx Community College where she has been tormenting and cajoling students for nearly eighteen years. She started writing eight years ago because she wanted something to illustrate, but somehow, instead ended up writing YA. Probably because her mind is too dark and twisted for small children.
BREAKING GLASS which was released July 9, 2013 from Spencer Hill Press, is her first published work. VISION, the first of the Finder series will be released in 2014 along with an unnamed sequel in the following year. LIFE AND BETH will also be released in the near future. So stay tuned because Lisa is very hyper and has to create stuff to stay alive.

Blog Tour: Hard Knox by Nicole Williams (Review + Giveaway)

Hi, everyone! I'm very happy to be part of the blog tour for Hard Knox by Nicole Williams,
which  is organized by AToMR book tours. For the full tour schedule, click here and enjoy all the stops!

Title: Hard Knox
Author: Nicole Williams
Series: The Outsider Chronicles, #1
Genre: New Adult/Adult Contemporary
Publication: Released August 12, 2014
Summary (Goodreads):
Knox Jagger. The name inspires resent in every male at Sinclair University, want in every female, and contempt in Charlie Chase.
Charlie can be summed up in three words: independent, independent, and independent. To Charlie, Knox epitomizes everything that’s wrong with college males: prolific one-night stands, drunken senseless fights, and a body that hints at prioritizing gym time over study time.
As an up-and-coming writer for Sinclair University’s newspaper, Charlie’s tasked with getting to the bottom of who’s been dropping little white pills into girls’ drinks at parties. In an ocean of All-American boys sporting polo shirts and innocent smiles, Knox is the obvious suspect. As evidence piles up against the bad boy of Sinclair, Charlie becomes more and more certain it isn’t Knox. But when her drink is dosed at a party and she wakes up on Knox’s couch the next morning, Charlie’s left with more questions than answers when it comes to Knox Jagger.
How can Charlie ever hope to uncover the truth behind a guy so closed off he’s become . . .
Hard Knox.

My Thoughts:

I love badboys. I just absolutely adore them. Because when a boy who doesn't give a flying monkey about the world falls in love, he'd do everything and anything for the one he loves, and what's hotter than that? Knox was pretty much all that, or maybe some part of it, because Knox cared about people, not what they thought of him, but people in general.

Hard Knox is told from Charlie Chases POV, a college student studying to become a journalist, who while attending a frat party to write an article on underage drinking on campus is drugged, then wakes up in the house of the badboy of Sinclair university, Knox Jagger. Soon though, her savior is suspected of selling drugs on parties and Charlie is appointed to write an article on him, and with someone hell bent on making Knox out to be the bad guy, she is more sure that he is being framed, but Knox isn't the only one targeted and if Charlie wants to come to the bottom of this, she'll have to work with the prime suspect and risk more than her well-being in the process.

Hard Knox was such a page turner! I could not stop reading it. Charlie is a snarky character who is full of wit and sarcasm and isn't taken down by a mean remark. She is independent and isn't shy to voice her thoughts to anyone and everyone, which hooked me to the book from the first page. I loved how clever her remarks were and how much they cracked me up, though I had a slight problem with her outlook on life and her fellow college students. She was stereotyping everyone, making the girls out to be naive and shallow and only caring about partying and guys, while the guys where assholes who only wanted one thing and it wasn't good grades. I don't think there was one student, aside from her roommate Harlow, that she didn't judge. Even Knox.

And gosh don't get me started on Knox. The guys just makes me want to curl into a ball and weep. His character in the start of the book is that of your typical badboy, hot, arrogant and a man whore, but as we delve deeper into the book, we get to know more about him and how he really is, which in turn changed Charlie's opinion of him. He's protective, he's got a shady past, he's passionate and he isn't afraid to end up in jail for the ones he loves. Grrrr this guy made me giggle, fan myself and laugh at his wit because he could outmatch Charlie when it come to being snarky, which actually made the book even more entertaining. There's nothing better than the MC:s arguing with each other rather than being sweet and battling their eye-lashes at each other.

Knox also made me cry. Gaaah I knew his story was going to break my heart, but I didn't expect it to just shatter the whole world. I can't imagine ever going through what he did or the guilt he harbored, it was just so much! And did I mention his protectiveness? He didn't just protect Charlie, oh no, he wouldn't be Knox if he did, there was so much more to him and his motives and personality than I thought, and I loved that surprise.

This book is an amazing read. It's full of suspense, entertaining characters and a hero so hot I melted!

“You look nervous,” he says. His hand, still in my hair, turns to my cheek. It’s warm. Smells good. “Come and sit down.”
He takes my hand and leads me to a window seat. A built-in bench, pressed up against a wall of glass. He wraps his hands around my waist and lifts me up. Sits me down up there. My eyes scan the patchy, dirt-strewn yard outside. The way the rain smashes off the ground and into something else. The sky is white. Stark white.
“Just a minute,” he says.
My mind screams as he steps away. He reaches onto some shelves along the wall and grabs an armful of navy blue blankets. Painters’ blankets, I realize as he holds them out for me. He sits them on the bench beside me. Smooths one out. Lifts me up and sits me on it. Then he tucks another one behind me.
“Thank you,” I murmur. Despite the blankets’ tattered appearance, they seem soft enough. There’s no paint on them, and they don’t smell like it. Another one unfolded by his big hands, tucked around me.
“You got wet. Warm up a moment.”
I sit there because my brain is broken and my heart feels puffed up like a balloon.
He climbs up behind me and gently nudges me forward. He leans his torso up against mine, spreads his legs around my butt and thighs. Strong hands begin to knead my shoulders.
“Don’t be nervous here, Angel. I’ll take care of you. Always.”
